Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost
Holy Apostle Luke the Evangelist
Colossians 4:5-18: As we read from St. Paul's letter to the Colossians, we hear him encourage us to walk in wisdom regarding those outside the Church and to speak to them with grace. We also hear him commend those who were his fellow workers, including St. Luke the Evangelist, whom we honor on this day.
Luke 10:16-21: Our Lord reminds His disciples that the joy of discipleship is not in authority over demonic power, but in the citizenship of God's Kingdom.
Troparion of the Resurrection: When thou, O immortal Life, didst humble thyself unto death, then didst thou destroy death by the brightness of thy Godhead; and when thou didst raise the bowels of the earth, then all the heavenly powers exclaimed, O Christ, thou art the Giver of life! Glory to thee, O our God!
Troparion of the Apostle Luke the Evangelist: O Holy Apostle Luke, intercede with our merciful God to grant our souls forgiveness of sins.
Troparion of the Chains of St. Peter: O Holy Apostle, Peter, thou dost preside over the Apostles by the precious chains which thou didst bear. We venerate them with faith and beseech thee that by thine intercessions we be granted the great mercy.
Kontakion for Usual Sundays: O undisputed intercessor of Christians, O mediatrix, who is unrejected by the Creator, turn not away from the voice of our petitions though we be sinners; come to us in time, who cry to thee in faith, for thou art good. Hasten to us with intercessions, O Theotokos, who didst ever intercede for those who honor thee.

Weekly Quote: "As for the fact that you are a layman and I am a monk, there is no need to think about it. . . The Lord seeks hearts filled with love for God and our neighbor. . . The Lord hears both the prayers of the monk and those of the layman, provided that both have a true faith, are true believers, and love God from the bottom of their hearts. . . they will both move mountains."
- Saint Seraphim of Sarov
