Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost
and Sunday of the Holy Fathers of the Seventh Ecumenical Council

Titus 3:8-15:  On this Sunday we read from St. Paul's letter to Titus, whom he warns to avoid delving into unprofitable and foolish questions about doctrine, and to reject heretics after two admonitions.

Luke 8:5-15:  Our Lord tells the parable of the sower in which he teaches us that the believer who perseveres with honest and good hearts will bear much fruit.

Troparion of the Resurrection:  The stone being sealed by the Jews, and thy pure body being guarded by the soldiers, thou didst arise on the third day, O Saviour, granting life to the world.  Wherefore, the heavenly powers acclaimed thee, O Giver of life, crying, Glory to thy Resurrection, O Christ! Glory to thy kingdom! Glory to thy gracious providence, O only Lover of mankind.

Troparion of the Holy Fathers: Thou, O Christ, art our God of exceeding praise who didst establish our holy Fathers as luminous stars upon earth, and through them didst guide us unto the true Faith, O most merciful One, glory to thee.

Troparion of the Chains of St. Peter: O Holy Apostle, Peter, thou dost preside over the Apostles by the precious chains which thou didst bear.  We venerate them with faith and beseech thee that by thine intercessions we be granted the great mercy.

Kontakion for Usual Sundays:  O undisputed intercessor of Christians, O mediatrix, who is unrejected by the Creator, turn not away from the voice of our petitions though we be sinners; come to us in time, who cry to thee in faith, for thou art good.  Hasten to us with intercessions, O Theotokos, who didst ever intercede for those who honor thee.

Sunday Pot Luck!!  The Parish Council has agreed that we will begin having a Pot Luck meal on the first Sunday of each month instead of Coffee Hour.  There will be a sign-up sheet posted on the Bulletin Board in the Fellowship Hall in the weeks prior to the meal, so that we can have an idea of the food that will be brought.  If you can't bring a dish, sign up for set-up or clean-up.  Participation is open to all (men as well as children!!)  This is a wonderful chance for some fellowship.  Please be sure to mark it on your calendars!!

Hay Ride!!!  Our annual Hay Ride is scheduled for Saturday, October 24th at the Nichols Boyd Pumpkin Patch where we have gone in the past.  We will not have Great Vespers that evening due to this activity.  Jennifer Skirtech is in charge and will have more information available shortly.

"What do I hear for....."  The Ladies of St. Peter will be auctioning off household "white elephants" as a fund-raising activity during the Pot Luck meal on November 1st.  Please stay to enjoy the fun as Sandi Strain conducts our auction...and remember "one man's trash is another man's treasure!"

Quotable: "Patience is the root and guardian of all the virtues.  We gain possession of our lives by patience, since we learn to govern ourselves, we begin to gain possession of the very thing we are."
"True patience consists in bearing calmly the evils others do to us, and in not being consumed by resentment against those who inflict them.  Those who only appear to bear the evils done them by their neighbors, who suffer them in silence while they are looking for an opportunity for revenge, are not practicing patience, but only making a show of it.  Paul writes that 'love is patient and kind.'  It is patient in bearing the evils done to us by others, and it is kind in even loving those it bears with.  Jesus himself tells us: 'Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, pray for those who persecute you and calumniate you.'"
    - St. Gregory the Great

Weekly Quote:  "The devil presents small sins to us as insignificant in our eyes, for otherwise he cannot lead us into great sins."
    - Saint Mark the Ascetic
