Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost
II Corinthians 6:16-7:1: St Paul reminds us that as God has promised to dwell with us, we are to be holy, cleansing ourselves from ungodliness.
Luke 6:31-36: From St Luke's account of the Sermon on the Mount we hear our Lord teach us to love our enemies, to be unselfish in our giving, and to have mercy upon those who do us wrong rather than condemning them.
Troparion of the Resurrection: O compassionate One, thou didst descend from the heights; thou didst submit to the three-day burial, that thou might deliver us from passion. Thou art our Life and our Resurrection, O Lord, glory to thee.
Troparion of the Chains of St. Peter: O Holy Apostle, Peter, thou dost preside over the Apostles by the precious chains which thou didst bear. We venerate them with faith and beseech thee that by thine intercessions we be granted the great mercy.
Kontakion for Usual Sundays: O undisputed intercessor of Christians, O mediatrix, who is unrejected by the Creator, turn not away from the voice of our petitions though we be sinners; come to us in time, who cry to thee in faith, for thou art good. Hasten to us with intercessions, O Theotokos, who didst ever intercede for those who honor thee.

Sunday Pot Luck!! The Parish Council has agreed that we will begin having a Pot Luck meal on the first Sunday of each month instead of Coffee Hour. There will be a sign-up sheet posted on the Bulletin Board in the Fellowship Hall in the weeks prior to the meal, so that we can have an idea of the food that will be brought. If you can't bring a dish, sign up for set-up or clean-up. Participation is open to all (men as well as children!!) This is a wonderful chance for some fellowship. Please be sure to mark it on your calendars!!

Quotable: "True faith does not contradict its words by its conduct. That is why Paul said of certain false believers: 'They profess that they know God, but they deny him by their deeds;' and why John said that 'He who says that he knows God and does not observe his commandments is a liar.'"
"Since this is so, we must confess the reality of our faith by expressing it in our lives. Then are we true believers when we fulfill by our works what we promise by our words. On our baptismal day we promised to renounce all the works of the devil, our ancient enemy, and all his delights. We must all of us recall this before our minds. If you are sure that you are preserving after baptism what you promised before it, you can rejoice that you are believers!"
- St. Gregory the Great
Weekly Quote: "Obedience is the only virtue that implants the other virtues in the heart and preserves them after they have been so planted."
