Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost
II Corinthians 1:21-2:1-4: St Paul, writing in II Corinthians, reminds us that we are established in God from whom we have received the Holy Spirit as a pledge of what we shall receive in the fullness of God's kingdom.
Luke 6:31-36: From St Luke's account of the Sermon on the Mount we hear our Lord teach us to love our enemies, to be unselfish in our giving, and to have mercy upon those who do us wrong rather than condemning them.
Troparion of the Resurrection: Let us believers praise and worship the Word, co-eternal with the Father and the Spirit, born of the Virgin for our salvation; for he took pleasure in ascending the Cross in the flesh, to suffer death, and to raise the dead by his glorious Resurrection.
Troparion of our Righteous Father Kyriakos: Thou didst prove to be a citizen of the desert, an angel in the flesh, and a wonderworker, O Kyriakos, our God-bearing Father. By fasting, vigil, and prayer thou didst obtain heavenly gifts, and thou healest the sick and the souls of them that have recourse to thee in faith. Glory to Him that hath given thee strength. Glory to Him that hath crowned thee. Glory to Him that worketh healings for all through thee.
Troparion of the Chains of St. Peter: O Holy Apostle, Peter, thou dost preside over the Apostles by the precious chains which thou didst bear. We venerate them with faith and beseech thee that by thine intercessions we be granted the great mercy.
Kontakion of the Theotokos: O undisputed intercessor of Christians, O mediatrix, who is unrejected by the Creator, turn not away from the voice of our petitions though we be sinners; come to us in time, who cry to thee in faith, for thou art good. Hasten to us with intercessions, O Theotokos, who didst ever intercede for those who honor thee.

Eucharist Bread …was offered by the Meadows for the Divine Liturgy this morning.
Please be reminded of the following:
Be very careful with the Blessed Bread when you take it after communion. Because this bread has been blessed, we should take care not to let crumbs fall on the floor. Parents, especially, please help your children to choose a small piece and treat it carefully.
Also, at the end of the liturgy, maintain a prayerful disposition during the veneration of the cross as the prayers of thanksgiving after communion are still underway. Please exchange your greetings with each other in the Fellowship Hall during Coffee Hour.

Please be reminded that the Sacristy/Vestry which is adjacent to and behind the altar in our church is considered by the Orthodox Church to be part of the Sanctuary (Altar area) and should not be entered without the blessing of the priest for a specific purpose. If you need to speak with a member of the clergy while they are in the Sanctuary, please ask them to come to you in the nave.
Christian education has resumed. Parents please be sure to have your children arrive on time. Also, we are in need of volunteers to help with the Pre-school Group. If you would like to help with this, please get in touch with Sam Habeeb.
Young Adults Study Group: The Young Adults will meet once a month on Sunday evening from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. (time will be strictly adhered to) for a meal, fellowship and teaching. The next meeting will be October 20th. Please let Father John know by text or e-mail if you will be there, so that plans may be made for the meal.
Calendar Items:
* The Men of the parish meet for lunch and fellowship on the first Thursday of the month.
* The Ladies of St. Peter will begin meeting for lunch and fellowship on the fourth Tuesday of each month. The next lunch will be Tuesday, October 22nd at 11:30 a.m. at the King Edward Hotel in downtown Jackson. Free valet parking is available.
* The Ladies of St. Peter will have a fundraiser TODAY to replenish funds used for charitable activities. They will be auctioning off casseroles and baked goods during Coffee Hour.
* The Ladies of St. Peter will begin meeting at 10:00 a.m. on the second Saturday of each month to pray the Akathist to the Mother of God, Nurturer of Children. Those who are able will go out for lunch and fellowship afterwards.
Canned food drive: The Christian Education classes will once again be collecting canned good s for the needy.
Fall Festival: We have tentatively set a date for this year's Fall festival on Saturday, October 26th. However, this is contingent upon a volunteer or volunteers to head up the festival. If you are interested in helping to plan this, please let Father John know.
Bible Study with Breakfast will resume on Saturday morning, October 5th from 7:30-9:00 a.m.
Camping trip for Youth Group: A camping trip to Louisville is planned for the Teens on Friday and Saturday, November 1-2. (Rain date will be November 8-9).
Fasting Discipline for October
The traditional fasting (no meat, dairy, fish, wine or oil) is observed all Wednesdays and Fridays of the month.

Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost
I Corinthians 16:13-24: St Paul concludes his first letter to the church at Corinth with greetings
from the Christians in Asia, and encouragements to be strong in the faith and submit to their spiritual elders.
Luke 5:1-11: In the reading from the Gospel of St Luke we see Simon Peter, James, and John become disciples of our Lord.
Troparion of the Resurrection: Having learned the joyful message of the Resurrection from the angel, the women Disciples cast from them their parental condemnation, and proudly broke the news to the Disciples, saying, Death has been spoiled. Christ God is risen, granting the world Great Mercy.
Troparion of the Hieromartyr Phocas: As a sharer of the ways and a successor to the throne of the Apostles, O inspired of God, thou foundest discipline to be a means of ascent to divine vision. Quotable: "Prayer is a communing with God. God loves us and we love God. He gave us the right to call Him our Heavenly Father. This means that we are His children. A child goes to its father to express its thoughts and feelings, its needs and joys, to express its filial love and devotion and to obtain the satisfaction of its wants. This companionship makes both father and child happy. Such fellowship is joyous in an immeasurably greater degree for God because with Him all things are perfect. Our prayer, our communion with God, should make us very happy. God is the Friend of man, and as a friend talks to a friend so in prayer the pious soul speaks to God and communes with its Creator.
